An amazing friendship between a penguin and retired bricklayer was formed after 71-year-old Brazilian native, Joao Pereira de Souza, discovered the South American Magellanic penguin in 2011 covered in oil and close to death.
After taking care and giving love and treatment, Jinjing was brought back to health. Soon, Joao thought his aquatic friend would be on his way back in the wild. But Jinjing didn’t want to leave. This started the amazing friendship between a penguin and a retired bricklayer.
The Patagonian penguin actually stayed with Joao for 11 months before disappearing, leaving Joao to think that he would never see his little friend ever again.
Little did he know that a year later Jinjing, would make a 2,000 mile journey to visit him back on his shores to visit the human that saved his life and cared for him for all that time.
Jinjing actually swims 4,000+ miles every year to see the man who saved his life and has continued to do so for the last five years. He returns to see no one else but his beloved friend Joao.
